“The Last Messages” is a novel written by Finnish author Hannu Luntiala whose narrative consists entirely of mobile phone text messages. It was published in Finland. It is the first novel constructed totally from mobile phone text messages (SMS).
It is a fictitious story about a technology executive in Finland who resigns from his job and travels throughout Europe and India, keeping in touch with his friends and relatives using text messaging. His messages, and the replies — roughly 1,000 altogether — are listed in chronological order in the 332-page novel.
The texts are rife with grammatical errors and abbreviations commonly used in regular SMS traffic. Finland’s Tammi is the publisher.
Incidently, the world’s first SMS text message was sent from Finland in 1993.
