Make More Money By Suggesting Google Adsense

I have been facing problems recently with Google Adsense. It is not showing contextual advertisement and so the click rate had gone down. I wished there was some way to suggest Google Adsense about what advertisements to show (assuming they do not understand by default).

Recently, I ran into this post about a plugin for Wordpress called Target Adsense. It provides you great control over how Google Adsense targets your blog posts. It provides section targeting, which allows you to suggest Google Adsense what portion of text you want to lay more stress on and what you don’t. This will allow you to display ads which are more suited for your post, which in turn is more likely to result in clicks, thus allowing you to make more money.

The plugin is easy to install. You can download the zip from here. Drop in the files after unzipping to your plugins directory. Then activate it from the plugins page and configure from the options page.

The plugin provides two options:

  • Option to wrap all posts and pages with ad section targeting tags
  • Option to add button to the post and page editor which allows easy ad section targeting within the post

It is still in beta but I used it on my blog and here is the before and after scenario:

beforeTargetAdsense

(before Target Adsense)

AfterTargetAdsense

(after Target Adsense)

As you can see, the second set of advertisements is more relevant to the post.

Behind the scenes it is using the <!– google_ad_section_start –>  and <!– google_ad_section_end –> tags to suggest.

<!– google_ad_section_start –> please lay more stress on the content here <!– google_ad_section_end –>

You can also de-emphasize certain portions of your content using a very similar method:

<!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –> please ignore this content for Adsense Purposes <!– google_ad_section_end –>

The idea is to ask Adsense to lay more stress on your post text and to ignore the sidebar text.

In the end, you have to remember that this is merely a way of suggesting Adsense and Google can choose to ignore your recommendations.
