OMCAR 2008 happened in New Delhi on January 12, 2008. Hosted by OMCareers, a non-profit organization, it was first online marketing careers conference in the world.

The conference was a huge success and attracted lot of Internet Marketing/ Search engine Optimization companies.

There was a job clinic attached with the event where companies were actively recruiting people for internet marketing jobs.

The conference featured discussions from the likes of Amar Goel (CEO - Komli), Mahesh Murthy (Founder and CEO Pinstorm), Vivek Bhargava (Founder - Communicate2), Manish Viz (Co-founder Quasar Media), Anurag Gupta (Managing Director - DGM India), Ravi Kabra (COE Head - Havas Digital), Sidharth Swarup (Joint-Managing Director Ishir Infotech), Kiran Gopinath (CEO - Ozone Media), Harish Bahl (CEO - SITG), Dylan Thwaites (CEo Latitude) and Raja Choudhary (CEO -C3 Cube)

I would like to share some interesting facts which came out during the conference:

1. Out of 32 million internet users in India, 40% are in metros and 60% from the rest of India
2. Size of online marketing in India was ~ 40 crore(2003-2004) which has grown to 600 crore(2007) which is expected to grow to 40,000 crore (by 2010)
3. By 2010 India will have 10 million broadband subscribers and 100 million online users

The presenters expressed concern over lack of talented and trained workforce in Search Engine Marketing in India and the common consensus was to promote awareness and develop skills in this area.
